- ME Other Nautical Fiction
- By Percy F. Westerman
Angus Cross anxious to follow the example of his uncle, known as “Fiery Cross”, and go to sea, is lucky enough to be accepted as a cadet by the owners of the famous “Golden Line”. Certain events connected with the launching of the ship on which he has his first seafaring experiences cause the superstitious to shake their heads, but on the whole the voyage of the Golden Gleaner is not unlucky, though certainly eventful.
The story gives a very vivid and interesting picture of post-war conditions in the Merchant Navy. The hero’s adventures afloat and ashore, will no doubt arouse in many a reader a longing to take up the same career. The characters of his shipmates are various, but even if there is a scrap or two, Angus has his own particular chum, and when he comes home on his first home leave he is quite naturally even keener on a sea-going life than when he sailed.
