When he released his autobiography Claude Choules (1901-2011 ) was aged 108 and was the only remaining man who saw active service in both World Wars.
Choules was born in England and saw action in the Royal Navy in World War I as well as witnessing the surrender of the German fleet in November 1918. He then settled in Australia, becoming an explosives expert, and served in the the Royal Australian Navy during World War II.
