Erick Berry is a pseudonym of Mrs (Evangell) Allena Champlin Best (1892-1974). She was the daughter of George G. Champlin, a reference librarian at the New York State Library, and May (Allen) Champlin. She grew up in Albany, New York and married Carroll Thayer Berry, and then (Oscar) Herbert Best. She was the author of more than 60 books, primarily for young people, some co-authored with Best. Berry illustrated most of her own books, as well as those of several authors including Best.
