Fred Cooper was born in Seaham, the only port in County Durham, England in 1950. He retired in 2003 as Finance Director of a North-East University and began to follow his life-long passion - researching the history of his home town and the sailing ships and characters that visited the harbour. His novel "A Master Mariner's Tale" was inspired by the real characters and historical events that he uncovered in his research.
