Nicholas Best grew up in the wilds of Kenya, still recognisable at the time from the films White Mischief and Out of Africa. He attended boarding school at Gilgil, in the Rift Valley and, at the age of 13, was sent to an English public school and then to Trinity College, Dublin. After graduating he joined the Grenadier Guards, serving in Belize
He then became a journalist in London and sold his first short stories. He now lives near Cambridge.
