Born and educated in England, Richard Butler taught in Tasmania and Victoria until the publication of his fourth novel. He then gave up full-time teaching for a dual career as a writer and professional actor, producing novels, scripts and feature articles and working in films, television and live theatre. So far he has published nineteen books, several of which have been translated into Dutch, Swedish, Italian or French; four have been re-published in the United States
He lives near Melbourne, working as a writer and script consultant, at the same time producing and presenting a weekly program for a local radio station.
