After hunting for Arab slave traders in the Indian Ocean HMS Bristol is sailing for Colombo in Ceylon. Midshipmen Teddy and Dick are looking forward to shore leave. Teddy’s brother has invited them to come and stay at his estate. When they leave the safety of the ship and make their way overland to the estate they must navigate a series of adventures and perils.
