Adam Duncan has been poorly served as far as a proper and accurate modern biography is concerned; however Sea Road to Camperdown, although fictionalised, is a very readable account of his life. Told mainly is retrospect, during the days before he took de Winter's fleet to battle, Styles gives a tantalising insight into the world of a remarkable man, and the action which certainly ranks amongst the most important of the Revolutionary and Napoleonic wars. Well written, by one who both knows the sea, and how to entertain, this is a book that deserves a new edition. |
