James and his crew had been in many engagements, survived many battles: but never had they experienced such a massive cacophony of explosions at such close quarters, even before the ships were level, as the charges of over eighty heavy-cannon exploded in one prolonged, horrific chorus of mind-numbing noise!
"Boom,Boom,Boom!" The Osprey shook and continued shaking with firing, leaping canon and the tons of cast-iron balls pounding into her sturdy hull. Many whistled across the deck felling those poor souls unlucky enough to find themselves in the path of the projectiles.
Sections of gunwales flew across the ship, creating a chaotic jumble of flying-rope, wood, blood and bone. Above the thunderous explosions and apocalyptic crashing sounds of destruction, came the cries, the yells of injured and dying men... the higher pitched screams of young, frightened and dying ship's boys.
