This image is of USS Constitution in 1997. Also known as "Old Ironsides", she is a 3 masted wooden-hulled heavy frigate launched in 1797. She is the world's oldest commissioned naval warship still afloat.
She is best known for her service during the War of 1812 against the United Kingdom. She captured many merchant ships and defeated five British warships: HMS Guerriere, Java, Pictou, Cyane, and Levant.
Her nickname "Old Ironsides" comes from the action with Guerriere when the crew saw british shot bouncing off. It led to public affection which repeatedly saved her from scrapping. She was designated a museum ship in 1907 and sailed under her own power for her 200th birthday in 1997, and again in August 2012 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of her victory over Guerriere. She is berthed at Pier 1 of the former Charlestown Navy Yard.
