An Essay in Sketches by John Charles Roach:

The World's Most Beautiful Ship Captured by One of the World's Most talented Military Artists

As a young man John Charles Roach, the son of naval architect, discovered that he had a talent for nautical art. As a result, before joining the U.S. Navy, he studied art in Frankfurt, Germany and later at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris.

Roach later became one of the best known combat artists of all time. He actively served in Vietnam, Desert Shield, Desert Storm, and the Bosnia-Herzegovina conflict-serving 10 years on active duty and another 13 years as a reservist. His 16' X 50' mural of the USS Arizona is on display at the USS Arizona Visitors Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.

"Mr Roach has captured the essence of the USS Constitution with his pen and ink as no other." - J. William Middendorf II - Secretary of the Navy
