The invention of a fairly large-sized ship which is able to undertake the double duties of submarine and airship has brought in its train the inevitable jealousies – particularly as the inventor is the deposed but highly-civilised, president of a South American republic. With the aid of his machine Don Miguel O’Rourke hopes to restore himself to power – while rumours of the invention have reached the Admiralty – Holmsby and his friend Tresillian desire to secure the invention for the British Fleet. The interests of the two parties result in a fast moving, richly coloured story told with all Mr Westerman’s practised skill. “The Flying Submarine” is as breathlessly exciting as any boys’ book recently published and we feel perfectly safe in recommending it. |
