The Nuclear Option

World War II was brought to its conclusion by the detonation of the two atomic bombs at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The Manhattan Project was not merely concerned with developing the weapons used by the allies to persuade the Japanese that further resistance was futile but also monitoring the progress that Japan and Germany might be making in their atomic weapons programmes. Miles Fletcher was the commander of a Motor Gun Boat operating against the Germans in the North Sea, but he had skills and unique qualities that meant he had to adapt to a totally different war. His mission took him to the far side of the world but the qualities that were required to defeat the Germans in the North Sea were needed to fight the Japanese.
