Charles Nordhoff (1830-1901)Charles Nordhoff , 1830-1901, was an American journalist and author, born in Westphalia. After emigrating with his family to Cincinnati in 1835 he served in the US Navy (1844-47) and later on whaling and fishing ships. As well as a journalist and author he was a leading political commentator of his day.

His grandson, Charles Bernard Nordhoff (1887-1947) was also an HNF author, writing  with J. N. Hall.

Many of his novels are not copyright in many countries and some are available as free eBooks in the online store.
