Abdul Aziz al Mahmoud was born in Qatar and has a BA in Engineering from Clarkson University in New York and an aviation and engineering diploma from the UK. He worked as editor-in-chief of Al Sharq and the Peninsula newspapers as well as Al Jazeera. He has also been a columnist on Middle East and global affairs for several newspapers.
