WWII: During the Battle of the Atlantic the captain of an American destroyer commands a small force of British and Canadian destroyers protecting an England-bound convoy protected by a thin screen of American, and corvettes. The story is told through the eyes of the captain on the bridge as over 48 hours he makes the needed decisions to defend the convoy of thirty-seven Allied merchantmen, deploying the escorts and his own ship through wolfpack attacks.
